Some things just don't make sense (to me)

Today at Seletar Base, the friendly receptionist told us that we need to have proper proficiency certificates in order to play on the course. And they can throw us out of the course if we aren't proficient enough. Also, the course uncle was worried that we'll be too slow, because all 4 of us in the flight only have PCs.

So, you may be the best golfer ever, but if you don't have a handicap or PC, then you'll need endure such treatment from the golf officials. Yes, I know that generally you need to be able to hit the ball properly so that everybody on the course can move at an acceptable smooth pace. And, a PC or handicap is the surest way to determine your golfing abilities. But still... *sigh*. OK, enough bitching from me already. Point is, no PC nor handicap does not equate to lousy golf skills. Just ask SW.

Another thing I find funny about golf is the "proper attire". In almost all courses, you'll be admitted without question if you wear a collared, polo shirt. Round neck t-shirts are usually not permitted. In other words, you may be wearing the smartest, most fashionable t-shirt from say, Armani, but you cannot play on the golf course. Conversely, if you wear the most washed out, tattered, and torn collared polo shirt, you'll be allowed onto the golf course. And the funny thing is that, if you wear a "mock neck tee", you're OK. What's the big difference between a t-shirt and a mock neck tee apart from the fact that a mock neck tee covers your neck a little bit more?

Oh yah, here are the scores from today's game (Hazeman and his fiancee prefer to keep theirs private):

Ill effects of golf deprivation

The arrival of 2007 marks the end of the northeast monsoon. Along with that brings glorious sunshine. December was a horrible month to play golf. I had to cancel a trip to Tering Bay because of bad weather. And, I can't even complete 9 holes at the Executive Golf Course, due to, you guessed it, rain.

As today's a bright and sunny public holiday, hordes of golfers turn up at various golf courses in Singapore. The Seletar Base Golf Course was no exception. The Hazeman and I had to wait for 2 and a half freaking hours. We arrived at 8am, but only teed off at around 1030. The Hazeman signed up as a member. With the member's privilege of being able to book via telephone, let's hope that we don't have to waste time waiting in the future.

I didn't have a good game today, as my iron shots were way off target most of the time. I'm really happy with my driver shots though. Josh "The Hazeman" Effendi improved significantly, hitting the ball accurately and with distance. But, his game faltered for the last 3 or 4 holes. Looks like you've got to work on your endurance and patience my friend.
